Manuscript, in a single hand, with many corrections, of a volume of Sir Egerton Brydges' journal series. The manuscript begins with the second part of a fictional narrative titled The last of the Colepepers, describing the machinations, legal battles, moral dissolution, and declining fortunes of an upper-class family; the work is accompanied by a running word count. This narrative is followed by Edmund, set in the court of Queen Elizabeth I; and 29 original sonnets on such subjects as poetry and prose; talent; envy and jealousy; and sorrow. The manuscript also contains miscellaneous notes on Brydges' reading and research on British nobility.
