Manuscript, in a single hand, of a collection of prize poems read at Rugby School, followed by a collection of other verses, both serious and light, on such subjects as love, music, weeping, and war. The manuscript begins with Charles Martel, a prize poem recited in Rugby School in 1832 by Arthur Penrhyn Stanley (1815-1881), followed by another Rugby prize poem, Man, recited 1839 by Franklin Lushington. Other poems in the volume include Thomas Babington Macaulay's Battle of Naseby and The Marriage of the Dauphin with Marie Antoinette, both accompanied by explanatory notes; The Bridge of Sophi, by Thomas Hood; and Ode on the 20th November 1812, sung at the common room aniversary meeting by G. Cornish Esqr. written by J. Arnold Esqr. These entries are followed by 12 other poems by various authors, including Henry Longfellow, William Thackeray, and Alfred Tennyson, and Hartley Coleridge.
