Manuscript, in multiple hands with numerous corrections, of a collection of Scottish poems and ballads; a biography; and a dramatic sketch. The collection includes a poem titled The Jacobite exile, concerning James Edward Keith, the last Earl Mareschal of Scotland; two Scottish ballads titled Lady Margaret and The Moor of Culloden; The Lass of Nether Mill; and The Miller of Ardendraught's Bonnie Daughter. Two pieces are addressed to Peter Buchan, printer and bookseller at Peterhead, including an acrostic on Buchan's name by "John Craik, poet" dated 1828. Finally, the collection contains a biography of Madam Sicard, actress; and a sketch of a satirical rehearsal play.

Peter Buchan (1790-1854) was a Scottish ballad collector, historian, printer, and publisher. He was born in Peterhead, Aberdeenshire, the only son of Janet and Peter Buchan. Pratt, John Burnett (1799-1869), was a Scottish Episcopal clergyman and antiquary. In 1825 he was elected to St James's Church, Cruden, Aberdeenshire, where he remained until his death. Pratt edited The Communion Office for the Use of the Church of Scotland (1866), as well as other religious works; he also published several books reflecting his antiquarian interests, including Buchan (1858), an antiquarian and topographical study of that district; and The Druids (1861). ...
