[Travel diary], 1816 Sep 6-29.

Incomplete holograph journal, with several corrections, of a tour through France. Accompanied by her sister Jane and her brother William, the author travels from London to Brighton and then to Dieppe, France. She describes a mass in Rouen and views paintings at a museum; in Paris, she purchases tickets to see King Louis XVIII with his royal family and court at Mass in the Royal Chapel of the Tuilleries; and describes the valley of the Seine as they pass through it, though she declares the Seine cannot be compared in beauty nor greatness to the Thames. The author makes other comparisons between English and French culture and geography, including a description of French houses as "dirty and comfortless as compared to the English," a comparison between St. Germain and Richmond Hill in Windsor; and a discussion of religion in France.
