Brother and sister. A musical farce in two acts, 1826 Feb 20.

Manuscript libretto, songs omitted, of a musical farce in two acts, concerning brother and sister Don Sylvio de Flores and Lady Camilla. The play is set in a castle in Spain, where the young widow Isidora lives with "a family of Vestals," 24 unmarried women who study philosophy and refuse contact with men, with the exception of the effeminate servant Bartolo and Isidora's elderly uncle Don Christoval. Isidore first refuses the courtship of Sylvio, but receives him for dinner when she is misled to think that he is really Camilla disguised as her brother in order to seduce her and expose Isidora's hatred of men. Once the misunderstanding is resolved, Isidora and Sylvio agree to marry, and Camilla insists the life of mother and wife is better than that of the undwed philosopher: "female character invariably assumes its proudest dignity, when it stoops to a performance of its meanest duty."
