Recollections of the late Reverend Thomas Ripley by his Son Jy. J. Ripley, [ca. 1814].

Autograph manuscript, lightly corrected and annotated, of biographical memoirs concerning Thomas Ripley (1752-1813), including reflections on: his childhood and education; his sermons and ministerial work; his political associates and critics; his antiquarian pursuits; his relationships with family and friends; and his spiritual and personal characteristics. Includes several extracts from family correspondence, epitaphs, and elegies, and anecdotes concerning: William Pitt, 1st earl of Chatham (1708-1778); Emma (Lyon) Hamilton, lady Hamilton (1761?-1815); Jeremy's grandfather Thomas Ripley (d. 1758); Mrs. Sarah (Kemble) Siddons (1755-1831); and Sir Walter Scott (1771-1832). Appendices include are a few poems, excerpts and epitaphs concerning Ripley and his wife, and memoirs concerning Richard Ripley, the author's uncle (1753-1819), and Thomas Villiers, earl of Clarendon (1753-1824). An elegy to "Eugenio" and verses "on revisiting a family burial place at Clapham" in 1830, and on the sunset, dated 1832.
