Sermons, 1734-1737.

Manuscript of 7 sermons delivered 1734-69 (first delivered 1734-37). Sermons are on Galatians( 2:20); Luke (15:18-19) ; Galatians (4:4-5), preached Christmas Day 1735; Matthew (10:32-33); Phillipians (3:20); Luke (22:19); and 2 Timothy (1:10). All but the last sermon annotated with places and dates of preaching; locations include Alyth, Innach, Fullerton, Nairne Chapel, Carriston, Blair, Muirhall. Bound in: 4 ALS concerning the authorship of the sermons: ALS, dated 1860 Sep 3, from David Laing to W.D. Macray; and 3 ALS, dated 1860 Oct 29 - Nov 10, from John Torry to W.D. Macray. In Torry's letter of November 1860, he identifies Crombie as one of "our Jacobite clergy", while pointing out a passage Crombie borrowed from an Archbishop's sermon.

According to the Canons of 1604, XLIX-LII, of the Church of England, only those persons whose faith and learning are known to their bishop are licensed to preach. Such is the case because the Anglican bishop has pastoral charge of his entire diocese, and the ministers of that diocese, and the ministers of that diocese are considered to be his assistants.
