The recipient of these letters is the Rev. Mr. Wilkins, Chaplain to Lord Orford and holder of the living of Hurstbourne Tarrant, near Andover, Hampshire; the letters are concerned mainly with domestic and family matters and the Duchess's acquaintance with clergy and patronage of charitable causes. The letters mention Mr. Lindsey (apparently a priest occasionally engaged by the Seymour household for private prayer), the Bishop of Oxford, the Archbishop of Canterbury, and a dinner with the Bishop of Bristol just before his translation to Durham, and his later poor health and death [Joseph Butler 1692-1752]. The letter of 1750/1 Feb 25 mentions her purchase of a house on Downing Street, from which some later letters are written, though a letter soon after her arrival mentions her dislike of city life and health complaints which she attributes to the city air, and which compel her to return to Percy Lodge. One letter is to Mrs. Wilkins, concerning Mr. Wilkins' poor health. Another is written to a Mr. McClary, requesting that an enclosure be forwarded to Mr. Wilkins.
