Manuscript transcript in the hand of court reporter William M. Cutter of testimony by J. E. James, given in the case of William B. Thornburgh vs. Savage Mining Company in the Circuit Court, District of Nevada, March 1867. Thornburgh vs. Savage Mining Company alleged a boundary infringement. James, an experienced civil engineer and surveyor who had surveyed and examined several mines in the Comstock range, including the Ophir, Gould and Curry, Mexican, Best and Belcher, Hale and Norcross, Chollar Potosi, part of the Consolidated Virgina and the Savage Mine, gave testimony for the defendant about the geologic features of the Savage tunnel; its relationship with adjacent shaft and tunnels; and the existence, quantity, and location of clay, quartz and other mineral deposits in the Savage Mine. Judge A. W. Baldwin presided over the trial.
