Welch, Lewis Sheldon, 1867-1940.

Lewis Sheldon Welch was born on July 9, 1867 in Hartford, Connecticut, and graduated from Yale College in 1889. In 1895 he founded the Yale Alumni Weekly and edited the magazine until 1906. He began working for Phoenix Mutual Life Insurance Co. in 1909 and in 1928 became president of Lewis S. Welch, Inc. He was active in New Haven civic and Yale affairs and was the co-author of Yale, Her Campus, Classrooms, and Athletics. Welch died in New Haven, Connecticut on March 29, 1940. From t...
