George E. Vincent was born in Rockford, Illinois. He was associated with the Chautauqua system from 1886 to 1915, and became honorary president of Chautauqua from 1915 to 1937. George Edgar Vincent, educator, was born in Rockford, Illinois on March 21, 1864, the son of John Heyl and Elizabeth Vincent. He received his B.A. from Yale (1885) and his Ph.D. from the University of Chicago (1896).
