Thomas Ewart Marston was born on November 7, 1904, in Chicago, Illinois. He was educated at Yale (B.A. 1927) and Harvard (Ph.D. 1939), taught history, and was curator of classics in the Yale University Library. His books include Britain's Imperial Role in the Red Sea Area, 1800-1878, and The Vinland Map and the Tartar Relation. Marston died on February 25, 1984.
