François Joseph Paul de Grasse letters to Louis-Antoine de Bougainville, 1781 Sep 7.

Two holograph letters written to Bougainville on the same day, two days after the battle of the Chesapeake. De Grasse writes from the "Ville de Paris," while holding contact with the British fleet. He commands Bougainville to be vigilant, as the commander of the rear guard of the fleet, and in the second letter indicates that he is sending his best surgeon, and expresses his hope that the French navy will have an important victory.
