Bristol family papers, 1769-1877 (inclusive).

(Miscellaneous papers relating to his service as second lieutenant in the 29th Conn. Colored Volunteers and records of the regiment (1863-1865) are part of the Civil War Miscellaneous Manuscripts Collection) Others prominent in the correspondence are Albert Gallatin Bristol, Mary Sanford Dwight Cleaveland (in letters to her children), David Daggett and Mary Bliss Bristol writing to her daughter Caroline, who was attending Miss Porter's School in Farmington, Ct. (1870-1873). Also in the papers are genealogies of the Bristol, Bliss and Cleaveland families, specifications for houses in New Haven and Fair Haven, scrapbooks (including one kept by Caroline Bliss Bristol on a trip to Europe in 1873-1874), account books, both business and personal and the manuscript of a play (ca. 1830). Correspondence, financial records, diaries, scrapbooks, account books and memorabilia of the Bristol family of New Haven and New London, Connecticut. The major figures in the collection are the descendants of Simeon Bristol (1739-1805); his son, William Bristol, and his grandsons, William Brooks Bristol, and Louis Bristol, all prominent lawyers, judges and members of the state legislature in Connecticut.
