William Makepeace Thackeray collection, 1846-1912.

Correspondence, writings, and artwork by and about William Makepeace Thackeray. Correspondence includes later letters written about Thackeray as well as letters written by Thackeray to such correspondents as Connop Thirlwall and William Webb Follett Synge, and letters to Thackeray from possible correspondents to Cornhill Magazine. Writings include the autograph manuscript of a chapter of The Adventures of Philip, and an autograph manuscript notebook with memoranda, drawings, and quotations from American history, used while writing The Virginians. Accompanied by pencil and watercolor sketches by Thackeray and by J. P. Atkinson. There are twelve card files of bibliographic citations and notes by Dickson regarding Thackeray.
