Autograph manuscript copy of a report made by G.T. Beauregard, Lieutenant of Engineers, to Major John Lind Smith, written in an unidentified hand. The report contains information obtained by Beauregard, Sep 7-10, regarding Mexican positions at Niño Perdito and San Antonio gates. Beauregard also summarizes recommendations he made at a council of war, Sep 11, favoring an attack on the City of Mexico at Chapultepec instead San Antonio gate, and his actions in preparation for the attack at Chapultepec. Beauregard refers to enclosed copies of his reports on operations of Sep 13-14, which are not present. The report is accompanied by a typed transcript.
