Four letters concerning Wheat's address before the Friends of the Bancroft Library in commemoration of the Bancroft's 50th anniversary, accompanied by the printed address. Typescript letter of February 6, 1957 to James Babb encloses three typescript carbon letters, dated June 2-24, 1955, between Wheat and Coney. This correspondence concerns Coney's reaction to Wheat's speech calling the Friends' attention to the waning monetary support and resulting decline in the Bancroft's position among Western history libraries.
