Manuscript transcripts in the hand of court reporter W. M. Cutter of testimony, given in the trial of George Newton for the murder of Charles Watson in the Fourth District Court, State of Nevada, County of Lyon, May 1868. A holograph statement of the conviction and judgment signed by Judge William Haydon and dated July 16, 1868, precedes the testimony; following the testimony is a sheet transmitting the documents to His Excellency Henry G.Blasdel, Governor of the State of Nevada, Carson City, Nevada, in Haydon's hand. An undated fragment of a sheet entitled "Motion to reopen case" contains part of a statement by the defense attorney T. H. Kennedy regarding the discovery of an important witness.

Charles Hoyt Watson served as the third president of Seattle Pacific College (now Seattle Pacific University). He was born in Kansas on December 12, 1888.
