Diary and account book relating to the marine mercantile trade, 1833-1854.

Holograph diary and account book containing largely unordered entries relating to the marine mercantile trade of S. P. Bushnell of Westbrook, Connecticut. Entries dated 1833 Sep 7-1837 Nov 1, contain accounts of cargo discharged, and items, including food, hardware, and wood, ordered by or sold to various individuals and firms in Georgia and New York. Entries dated 1853 Feb 21-May 16 contain brief descriptions of Bushnell's voyage from New York to Sacramento, California; his work as a fishing net knitter; and travel to Bodega, San Francisco, Oakland, and Petaluma. These entries are followed by accounts of purchases and sales of food, hardware, twine, and other provisions dating from 1853 May 24-1854 Mar 24. Numerous miscellaneous notations appear throughout the volume. Names appearing in the volume include Edward Wright, who travelled to California with Bushnell and went to the "mine regions," and [Berry?] Kelsey, Isaac Snow, and Captain A. B. Webb, whose names precede lists of accounts.
