Manuscript diary of Dubois's experiences as a barometrical recorder on the George Wheeler survey expedition in Nevada from 1876 Aug 28-Nov 26. Dubois describes his working and living conditions; colleagues Lieutenant M. M. Macomb, Frank Carpenter, and H. W. Henshaw; and letters from family and friends in the East. Descriptions of places visited and/or surveyed include Carson City, Virginia City, Tahoe City (Lake Tahoe), Sutro Tunnel, and Silver Lake. Barometrical recordings taken by Dubois are not noted in the diary.

Henry Wetherbee Henshaw (1850-1930) was born in Cambridge, Massachusetts, on March 3, 1850. Henshaw wanted to go to Harvard, but due to his health he was unable to go. Wheeler was born in Hopkinton, Massachusetts, the son of John Wheeler and Miriam P. Daniels.
