Autograph manuscript circular letter from the Spanish government to the Viceroy of Peru (Teodoro de Croix) and signed by Antonio Porlier. Sent to all the heads of the Spanish colonial government in response to the Russian Empress Catherine's request of Spanish Prime Minister Count Floridablanca that grammars and dictionaries of various Indian languages, as well as Philippine languages, be procured for her. Additionally, she requested that a list of over 400 words (which is included in the letter) be translated for her into all possible dialects spoken in North and South America.
