Autograph scrapbook of stage personalities, 1819-1916.

Album containing 250 letters including ALS and TLS, and accompanying material assembled by an unidentified collector. The letters, dating from 1819 to 1916, were written predominately by British performing artists, playwrights, and composers. Each writer is represented by no more than four letters. The majority of letters are accompanied by portraits in the form of clippings, prints, engravings, and photographs, and clippings of biographical information. A small number of playbills are included. Writers include Henry Irving, William Charles Macready, Nicolo Paganini, and Sarah Siddons. Letters and other materials are tipped and laid in.

Sir Henry Irving (1838-1905) was a British actor-manager. Born Feb. 6, 1838, in Keinton Mandeville, Somerset, Eng., he died Oct. 13, 1905, in Bradford, Yorkshire.
