John Franklin Miller papers, 1852-1884.

The collection consists of Miller's bills and receipts, letters, and documents. There are 77 bills and receipts for Miller's domestic expenses, many printed by early San Francisco and Napa printers (some pictorial billheads). Also present are four short letters written to or by Miller, and a certificate of Miller's membership in the California Academy of Sciences. Accompanied by ships' papers for the steamer Oregon, carrying French clothing goods for Verdier Freres & and Belpaume of San Francisco. It is possible that these papers came into Miller's hands while he was San Francisco's port collector.
