Report... on a military reconnaisance near New Orleans, 1842 / by Richard C. Tilghman, 1842 Jan 29.

For military purposes, Tilghman sailed aboard the sloop, Fanny Eisler, to examine all possible waterways from the ocean, the Gulf of Mexico and the Mississippi river, and reported to Campbell Graham, Captain of the Corps of Topographical engineers that there were no roads or paths in the region except those traversed by fishermen and oystermen.
