The letter and dictum, dated 1753, to Padre Juan Antonio Balthasar discusses 22 missions which are being transferred from the Society of Jesus to the Durango diocese and recommends the establishment of new missions in the Colorado and Gila areas (WA MSS S-611;N4221). The report, entitled "Autos en virtud de un Sperior Despach...," consists of documents relating to an expedition to reconnoiter the borders of the Rio Grande, the re-establishment of missions, and the establishment of a presidio at Junta de los Rios (WA MSS S-612;N4221).
