Fort Bridger account book, 1865-1869.

The volume was used by several different groups. The first page contains an invoice of stores given to Lt. Pike of the 1st Michigan Cavalry, followed by copies of letters from Lt. Pike to the quartermaster at Fort Bridger. Scott Eddy and Company's purchase records take up several pages, followed by the records of the Fort Bridger post trader. The post trader's accounts involve members of the garrison, Indian agent Luther Mann, civilian settlers and travelers.

William A. Carter (1818-1881) was born in Virginia, and moved to Fort Bridger in 1857 to become the storekeeper. He was a businessman and a probate judge while doing other various jobs.
