Autobiography. [1887 or 1889].

Frederick Rehwinkel's autobiography describes his early life in Germany; his emigration to the United States in 1856; his career as a soldier in the 1st Mounted Riflemen, later the 3d U.S. Cavalry, and in the 3d U.S. Volunteer Infantry, 1856-1865; his overland journey to Oregon in 1866; his voyage from Portland, Oregon to San Franciso; his experiences in that city; and finally, his journey from San Francisco to New York by way of Panama. Pages 315-318 are missing and earlier drafts of 10 miscellaneous pages have been laid in.
