Joseph Middleton papers, 1849-1877.

The diaries cover the period May 1849-July 1850 and describe the overland journey to California. The letters, mainly by Middleton to family, include three from officials in Zacatecas, Mexico, on the circumstances of Middleton's death. There is a map and a daguerrotype in the collection.
