The Gounod Society Papers, 1887-1919 (inclusive).

This collection documents the activities of the Gounod Society of New Haven from its inception in 1887 to its dissolution in 1903. Founded as a small choral society dedicated to singing glees and part-songs, the Society grew to include more than 300 singers and regularly performed large choral works with the New Haven Symphony. The founding of the New Haven Oratorio Society in 1903 effectively ended the rehearsals and performances of the Gounod Society.
