Johnson discusses his family and childhood, his early education, his attendance at the Louisiana State Normal College, his work as an elementary school teacher in Naborton, La., the early oil industry in Louisiana, and his attendance at LSU in the mid-1920s, including military training, social life, the hazing of freshmen, vandalism by freshmen, fraternity initiation, alcohol consumption by students, and the popularity of football. He also discusses his meeting Huey Long, his graduation from LSU, his work as instructor of speech at LSU, and his tenure at the University of Alabama.
