Helen Amestoy received her Bachelor of Arts degree in the History of Art and her Master's of Library Science degree from UCLA. Lawrence Clark Powell was a noted writer and librarian. Powell was well-known for his writings on librarianship and the literature of the American Southwest, including books such as Books West Southwest and Southwest Classics. He served as head librarian at UCLA from 1944 to 1961, when he became the founding dean of the UCLA Graduate School of Library Service.
