Handmade black walnut chest with nickel trimmings opens at the center and has a hinged lid. A plate on the center of the top reads "PRESENTED / TO / THE PRESIDENT AND / MRS. WARREN G. HARDING / BY / THE WOOD SHOVEL AND TOOL COMPANY / PIQUA, OHIO / DECEMBER 25th, 1922." The interior of the box is fitted with black leather straps with metal buckles and wooden supports to hold ten spades.
