Neal Miller was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, on August 3, 1909. He received a B.S. from the University of Washington in 1931, an M.A. from Stanford University in 1932, and a Ph.D. from Yale University in 1935. He served as a research assistant and research associate in psychology at Yale before earning the rank of professor in 1950. From 1966 until 1980, he served as a professor at Rockefeller University.
