This collection contains photographs relating to the Southern Pacific Railroad (SPRR) Company in the Portland, Or. area, mostly from 1945-circa 1955, with some images from the 1970s. The photographs were collected by Lovett Smith, one-time superintendent of the Portland division of the railroad. Subjects consist of the damage to the SPRR lines and facilities in Portland after the Vanport, Or. flood in 1948; SPRR train wrecks and other damage to train tracks; and many photographs of railroad company personnel, including birthday and retirement parties, as well as the company picnic in Oakridge, Or. in 1952. Many of the photographs depict Lovett Smith. Most of the photographers are unknown. Includes panoramic photographs and one color photo.
