Ruth Armstrong Smith papers, 1942-1999 1943-1946.

This collection reflects the experiences of Ruth Armstrong as a college student during World War II. It is comprised of student handbooks, Delta Delta Delta Sorority memorabilia, and correspondence. Of special interest are several issues of the "Nevada Gridiron," football game programs published by the University of Nevada Board of Athletic Control. Photographs, including "then and now" portraits of twelve 1943 women students who attended their 1997 Golden Reunion, were transferred to the University Photo Archives as collection UNRA-P3420.

Ruth Mae Armstrong was born on November 9, 1925, in Reno, the daughter of Elmer and Edna Armstrong. She had two brothers, Raymond and John. She went to Northside Junior High School and Reno High School. She was a member of the Reno Assembly of Rainbow Girls Club. During high school, she was a member of the Manzanita Arc of the Fireside Circle and was elected the State President in 1941. She was also active in the Hi-X Club of the Federated Church.
