The Minutes of the Florida State University Planning Committee document a transition period for Florida State University. The minutes collection contains not only the minutes of this organization for the March 26, 1948 through March 28, 1949 period, but also related items, such as reports from the Functions Sub-Committee and the Sub-Committees on Housing, Committees, and General Education. Two letters from Chairman Hogarth to President Campbell are also included, as well as a questionnaire from civil engineering company Bail, Horton and Associates regarding future University facility functions and needs, and two memoranda from the Library staff, signed by Director Louise Richardson, to the Planning Committee regarding current and future library facility needs. Among topics covered in the items of the collection are facilities, curricula, and housing issues.

The Florida State College for Women (FSCW) Artist Series began in 1923. Dean Ella Opperman was the first person in charge of organizing the series. The series was intended to bring renowned artists to FSCW. After FSCW became Florida State University (FSU), the FSU School of Music managed the series. According to Robin Sellers' Femina Perfecta, in 1914 members of the even-year classes of Florida State College for Women (juniors and freshmen) wore their green and yellow class colors to chapel on the Saturday morning before Thanksgiving.
