Martha Bunch Journal, 1846-1867 Bulk 1846.

This journal was presented to Martha Barbour on June 24, 1846, by her husband Philip Barbour. The diary begins on July 1, 1846 and ends on October. 4, 1846. In this journal, Bunch records her daily activities and expresses her fears and anxieties about the welfare of her husband. The final entry is from October 25, 1867. It is a letter to her daughters, in which she gives instructions on how her personal effects should be handled and what should be done with the uniform of Major Barbour.

Martha Isabelle Hopkins (Barbour) Bunch was born on February 6, 1824 in Henderson County, Kentucky. She was the daughter of Jacob Bugg and Caroline Imlay (Brent) Hopkins. After the early death of her mother, Bunch was raised by her grandmother, Mrs. Innes Baxter Brent. She was married to Philip Norbourne Barbour in Kentucky in 1843.
