Business correspondence, personnel records, assignments, reports, photographs and other documentation regarding Samuel David Hounsell's appointment to and tenure as the keeper of the Southampton Shoal Light Station off of Point Richmond, in northern San Francisco Bay, from 1905 to 1910. The collection also includes some documentation of Samuel Hounsell's professional activities preceding his appointment to the Southampton Shoal light station.

Samuel David Hounsell was born May 19, 1868; died December 16, 1936. He was assistant lighthouse keeper at Oakland harbor, Jan. 10, 1895, 2nd Assistant Keeper at Humboldt [Bay?], and became keeper at Southampton Shoal, Pt. Richmond, June 26, 1906. He resigned Feb. 28, 1910. He was with the revenue cutter Bear prior to his lighthouse service. From the description of Samuel David Hounsell papers, 1894-1910.
