Includes two series. Series 1: Contains information on the genealogy of the Kilgore family, descendants of Joseph Kilgore of Scotland. Genealogical records are organized into tables by family name. Also included are correspondence from Roy Killgore and Ben Kilgore, as well as the correspondence and genealogy of the Robinson family of York, Me., and information on William Shirley, royal governor of Mass. Series 2: Consists of the manuscript for the treatise A Maine Town In The Civil War, by Vernal Hutchinson, a Kilgore descendant, about the history of Deer Isle, Me. The published work is in the MHS collection (M D360.3)

Joseph Kilgore was born in Scotland in 1690, and immigrated to York, Me., in 1718. Two years later he purchased 20 acres and married Penelope Trueworthy, or Treworgy (1694-1764). They had three sons, Joseph Kilgore, Jr. (1730-1787), Benjamin Kilgore (1732-1808), and John Kilgore (1735-1818). They may also have had daughters, whose names and birth dates are not included in this collection. Joseph, Jr. and John fought in the Revolutionary War, and John served in the State Legislature from 1811-181...
