Born on March 8, 1912 in Amery, Wis.; graduated from East High School, Minneapolis, Minn. (1930). Attended University of Minnesota; joined Minn. National Guard (1933), appointed 2nd Lieutenant in the reserves; entered active duty in May 1941. La Mere was assigned to the 8th Replacement Depot in Empoli, Italy, before joining the 85th Regimental Headquarters Company on March 16, 1945.
