Portia K. Maultsby received a Ph.D. degree in Ethnomusicology from the University of Wisconsin--Madison, and is a Distinguished Professor in the Department of Folklore and Ethnomusicology, the Director of the Archives of African American Music and Culture, and an adjunct professor of African American and African Diaspora Studies at Indiana University.
