Nimrod letters [manuscript], 1835-1843.

Apperley writes to George Brumell on publication matters concerning "Nimrod's hunting tours" and "Life of the late John Mytton, Esq." including errata and the plates of illustrations. Letters to Walter Spiers discuss his articles for the "New sporting magazine." An error in the printing has forced him to submit articles only if he can have the proofs for correction. He reminds Spiers that he travels on his own expense, declines to write for him in the future and requests a copy of his account. A letter to Robert Smith Surtees expresses displeasure at Surtees' caricature of him as "Pomponius ego" in his recently published "Handley Cross." The verso contains a reply drafted by Surtees admitting the character P. Ego is Nimrod. Nimrod replies that he will read the book before he writes again.
