[Diary of Arthur Jamieson of the Gellibrand lightship, Williamstown, Victoria, 1893-4] / by Arthur Jamieson. 1893, Dec. 25-1854, July 27.

Daily record kept by worker on the Point Gellibrand lightship off Williamstown in Port Phillip Bay. Each entry gives details of the weather; winds; sea; barometric pressure and temperature. Some entries include information about the watches he kept; ships that passed; jobs done; going ashore; being unable to purchase goods on a Sunday, although later in the diary he does talk of 'bribing' a storekeeper to sell him bread. He refers to his 3 days of monthly leave and going to a pantomime in Melbourne. In late May he has 3 weeks leave, but refers only briefly to his activities in that period, with the opening of parliament and 'visiting the ladies'.
