The Hillmer's Leather Shop records contain a variety of business documents and personal correspondence concerning the company, dated circa 1925-1958. Included are order forms listing names, dates, and amount; check stubs with names, amount, and check number; tax returns and bank statements; letters and enclosures from the Office of Price Administration (OPA) during World War II (WW2); supplier correspondence and order forms from several suppliers, organized by supplier name; insurance claims for shipments; vouchers; daily receipts; business ledgers and account books, and other documents related to Ernest Hillmer and his father-in-law George Klein. The collection also contains personal correspondence, a Hillmer family tree, and Walter Hillmer's diary from 1943. Included is approximately 387 letters written by or to Walter Hillmer, many written by or to Mary Fowler Hillmer during World War II. Also included is correspondence written by Walt Hillmer during his service in the Peace Corps, 1967-1970, photos, training materials, Peace Corps documents, postcards, money, and other memorabilia.
