Jenkins, John H., reminiscences, 1828-1890.

Reminiscences of John H. Jenkins (1822-1890) document his experiences in the Texas Revolution (Gonzales and the Runaway Scrape); Indian troubles; Bastrop County; hunting trips; the Mier Expedition. Also included are obituaries of Jenkins and an account of the Battle of Mansfield by A. M. Hill.

John H. Jenkins (1822-1890) was a soldier and writer. His family emigrated from Alabama to Texas in 1828. At age 15 Jenkins joined Jesse Billingsleys' Company and went to Gonzales. He assisted in the resettlement of settlers after the Runaway Scrape and after the war joined Edward Burleson on his Indian raids. Jenkins died in Bastrop, Texas, in 1890.
