Samuel Lambert papers, 1838-1890.

Papers are comprised entirely of printed material. The CONGRESSIONAL GLOBE takes up the issues of slavery and states' rights (March 1, 1860), and a published speech by Montgomery Blair addresses the causes of the Civil War (1864). A broadside warns voters against fraudulent electoral tickets in the presidential election (Nov. 1, 1856), and an illustration depicts Confederate troops in a rabbit hunt (undated). Also included is a booklet on the Maynard rifle, and an issue of the ALBION, OR, BRITISH COLONIAL, AND FOREIGN WEEKLY GAZETTE (Oct. 20, 1838).

Samuel Lambert was a resident of East Feliciana Parish and Baton Rouge, La. He served in the 4th Louisiana Regiment of the Confederate Army during the Civil War, and authored "A Record of the Late Fourth Louisiana Regiment, C.S.A.", printed in the East Feliciana Democrat in Clinton, La.
