The three-years 3rd Ohio Volunteer Infantry (OVI) for the Union Army during the American Civil War was organized at Camp Dennison on June 12, 1861. It served at locations in Georgia, Tennessee, and Alabama. Much of the regiment was captured on May 3, 1962 near Rome, Georgia, and taken as prisoners of war.
