James Braden papers, circa 1974 - 1990 (bulk: 1985-1990).

The collection consists of Braden's papers from his time in the Kansas House of Representatives. Major topics and series in the collection include taxation and assessment (Braden was chair of this committee before becoming Speaker of the House), health issues such as AIDS and abortion, crime and corrections, constituent correspondence, subject files arranged alphabetically, specific bills (organized by House or Senate bill number), state agencies, etc. Types of materials include memoranda and correspondence; copies of legislative bills; newspaper clippings, articles, reports, and other reference materials; invitations, congratulations, and thank yous, as well as scheduling records; petitions, etc. The records date from before and during Braden's time as Speaker of the House, though the bulk of the records date from circa 1985-1990.
