Committee appointed by John P. Mitchel, mayor of New York City, to plan Fourth of July celebrations. Records consist mainly of letters to chairman George Gordon Battle from prominent persons accepting or declining membership on the committee. Also includes minutes from select meetings, lists of members and contributors, and memorabilia. The committee was also known as the New York City Fourth of July Committee.
