The Kentucky River Mills (KRM) Records include materials that give insight into the hemp industry in Kentucky and into business practices of the late 19th through the early 20th centuries. This collection also includes documents related to lawyer William C. McChord, steamers on the Kentucky River, and land transfers and foreclosures throughout the state. This collection includes 28.5 cubic feet of material in 21 c.f. boxes, 1 mss box, 2 oversized boxes and 42 volumes. Items in the collection range in date from 1829-1933, with the bulk of the material dating from 1880-1913. The collection contains items such as correspondence, map, drawings, deeds, foreclosures, and ship manifests.

The painter Paul Sawyier was born in Madison County, Ohio, March 23, 1865, to a family of amateur artists. In 1870, the family moved to Frankfort, Kentucky. Sawyier attended the Cincinnati Art Academy in 1884-85 and then returned to Frankfort in 1886. There he began painting river scenes and landscapes.
